LASIK?

Next is the long wait for the surgery. We came back around 6.30pm to settle my payment first. Then we told the staff we go for dinner first. The staff said no problem, we could come back around 8pm. So we came back around 8pm. Waited and waited until almost 9pm. Then suddenly one of the staff asked us to go to a room behind the counter. So strange leh.

Guess what, she told us one of the LASIK machine had problem calibrating something. For safety reasons, they had to send us home and come back the next day. Wow, that was some news for us after a long day. Anyway they issued a S$200.00 as compensation and booked taxis for us. We could claim the taxi fare as well. Well, 3.3k - 0.2k = 3.1k. Thats some good news isn't it. My colleague even better lor. 2.1k for her LASIK.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well recently, quite broke you see. I got so many things to do, so many things to buy, until I have not much left. So now money quite important for me you know.

Anyway I paid with my OCBC credit which allows me to pay with 24 months interest free installments. Still its about 142 per mth.

Pre-LASIK evaluation

this morning went to LSC for pre-LASIK evaluation. Went there around 10am. A lot of people there leh. seriously, i think the doctors there earn big bucks leh. Especially Dr. Marc Tay, since most of the patients here are his.

Anyway after almost 5 hours before I see Dr Tay with my evaluation results. Why? Because for some reason, I got to go to another clinic at Lucky Plaza to do the eye wavescan again. Think I heard from one of the staff, the machine at LSC nt working very well.

Anyway, about half to 1 hour was spent at the Lucky Plaza's Asia Health Clinic or something liddat. Then back to LSC, waited another half an hour. Goodness me, almost 3pm then I get to see Dr Tay. Then here comes 2 bad news.

Dr Tay first examine my eyes then go on to say that I can do LASIK but

1. My eyes are too flat. Using the bladed (Microkeratome) method is not very safe as the flap created may not be good enough. So he advised me to do Intralase which is using laser to create the flaps. Adv: Can create nice and good flaps for me. Disadv: Expensive.

2. My left eye asti is actually 275 instead of 100. I was been misled that my asti was not as high. (I am still wondering why my spect shop at Chong Pang gave me a 100 asti contact lens instead of 275 for my left eye). So he advised me to do WaveFront. Adv: Can laser high asti eyes. Disadv: Expensive.

Anyway I stared at him for a while. He asked me if I have any more questions for him. I just stoned there for a few seconds. All I have in my head is $$$$$. My hope of S$2.3K for the whole LASIK vanished before my eyes. Actually I should asked him more about Intralase and WaveFront, but before I knew it, I sitting before the counter staff talking about the prices and everything already.

Intralase with WaveFront for 2 eyes: 4k.
Intralase with Standard for 2 eyes: 2.8k.

But I could not make up my mind. I was quite lost. I worried that if I do standard for my left eye, i might end up with some asti remaining. Do wavefront will cost a bomb.

After stoning, staring blankly at the staff and my colleague and at the calculator for a few times, still no decision.

The thought of not doing at all even cross my mind. Damn vexed I was feeling at that moment. Then the counter staff said I could pay a deposit first, then later before the surgery then decide what I want. I agreed without thinking.

Went for lunch 1st. 3+pm already leh. Went to Wisma Astra Food Republic. While eating, I called and smsed friends and colleagues who did LASIK at LSC for their opinions. Suddenly I remembered Dr Tay did say I could do wavefront for left and std for right. I called LSC immediately and asked for the price. 3.3k. Hmmm....... At least cheaper than 4k.

My right eye asti is 100+ only, so can do std.

Anyway, my colleague and I went to watch Iron Man at Lido, since there still some time before the surgery. Our appointment was at 7pm.

Quite a nice movie I thought. At least it managed to ease off some of the "vex-ity" that I was having just now. Ok, then I finally make up my mind. Intralase Std & WF 3.3k.

Pre-LASIK evaluation coming up.

My colleague & I decided to changed our Pre-LASIK evaluation from tomorrow to Wed 30th Apr, which is the same day as the LASIK surgery, mainly because so matter what is the outcome of the evaluation, MC will be given as long as we see the doctor during the evaluation. On the other hand, I am thinking of skating at ECP tomorrow since I will not be able to do any sports once after LASIK for at least 2 weeks!

So yesterday, gave a call to LSC and changed our appointment time. Getting abit envious already. Dunno if I will be a suitable candidate for LASIK anot. We will see on Wednesday. Hopefully after Wednesday, i can say bye bye to my specs and contact lens!!

Stay tuned.

Those who brought their PADI card get to pay only 1 dollar leh. Too bad I nvr bring mine lor, but nvr mind, with my new dive gear, cant wait to go diving liao. Haven got the gear yet though. Only pay money. try-on and collect at the dive shop itself. So see which day free to go down lor.

Japan Trip 12th Apr to 17th Apr 2008

well this japan tour was not the best of japan that i experienced, as compared to my previous japan tour to Hokkaido.

Firstly, the tour schedule is very tight. every night change hotel. spend very short time at each place. go to many places. sometime long traveling time.

Secondly, the tour guide sucx. he is a singaporean to went to japan to work as a tour guide. every day put on black face one. then all the time he keep saying where to meet, when to meet, and how not to make ourselves lost and how impt is it to come back on time and what is the consequences if we are late. he give repeating and repeating. and somemore he say this 2 times "if we cant reach the restaurant at 5pm, we might have to come back at 9pm!".

wtf, he is like threatening us lor. and i been to so many tours, and i nvr heard of this crap before lor. i think he just want to finish the day asap so he can go shake leg eat snake. nvr say much about the japan culture or history of the places we visited. keep warning us that japanese are not very friendly, these sorts of things. say they are very systematic, not like us. i think he is bringing down both the japanese and us singaporeans lor.

nvr will i go to another asa tour liao lor. i rather spend more on a chan brother tour. at least so far their tour are still of a certain std. anyway i wrote down on the survey form that they should change the tour guide, and plus some of the points i said above. angry leh.

nevertheless, i did enjoy myself there to the great weather, the beautiful sights of japan, especially sakura, the kawayee jap babes, and the delicious jap food.

however one thing is, before one decide to go japan, one has to have enough money! everything is so ex....

LASIK

Just now attended a LASIK forum at LSC with my colleague. The 3 surgeons each talk about a few topics on LASIK and other things.

The hot favourite doctor is of coz Dr Marc Tay. His cv is quite impressive. And dunno true anot, he alone LASIKed 10,000 pairs of eyes last year. 10,000 eyes is like 5,000 patients. So 5,000 divide by 365 is like about 13 patients a day. Wow.

Anyway my colleague and I booked our evaluation on 27th Apr. And also the surgery on 30th Apr. Got to kiasu abit becoz we want to make use of 1st May which is Labour Day. This period got alot of work to do in office so cannot afford to take too many MC. So if we do the LASIK on 30th Apr, 1st May Thurs is PH. only need to take Fri MC. Then got weekend. So got 4 solid days to rest at home. good planning rite. Hee.... Hope I can do my LASIK with the standard method one. At least it wont cost so much. Recently very poor already.

Coming 19th and 20th Apr is the ADEX (Asia Diving Ex.) Want to go get my snorkel mask and fin. Maybe a wetsuit also. see how 1st.

An advance diver, I have become + updated wish list

I'm back!!!! Had quite an enjoyable trip to Pulau Aur, although the traveling to and fro really can kill.....

Nevertheless, I completed all 5 requirements for an advance diver and this trip I dived for 6 times, 2 more times compared to my open water last year.

3 day dives + 1 night dive on Day 1 and 2 day dives on day 2.

Saw a few big big parrot fish, many schools of beautiful fishes, turtles, sea cucumbers, beautiful corals and many more.

There was a frightening moment for me during on the the dives on Day 1 though. I got struck in one of the underwater caves and did panic a little. Struggle a bit and manage break free after pushing and pulling the coral walls. then after that got separated from the group and my dive buddy because the strong current swept me away.

Anyway I ascended to the surface myself and rejoin them on the surface. Woah. what a exciting dive.

Got a few cuts on my arms and legs during my struggle with the cave. But nothing serious. Got some blisters due to abrasions from the fins. The fins at first was too small. Then the instructor lent me a bigger one. But this time its too big. So conclusion is that I will go buy my own fins for my next dive. Those booty fits that could fit exactly to my feet.

Hope next dive can go rendang or bali.

Pictures, my friend took a few, i didnt take any. I post them up when I get from him.

Ok. some updates to my wishlist.
I abandoned the losing weight to 75kg because according to the doctor, 75 kg will be underweight for me. So now i in my ideal weight. around 80 to 82 kg. Just need to convert my fats to muscle mass.

Completed my advance scuba dive.

Added K2 Inline skate.

Added snorkel mask and fin.
